Taboola manages over 1 billion metrics per minute, primarily generated by thousands of Java instances. While Dropwizard has been our long-standing Java instrumentation solution, this presentation details our shift to OpenTelemetry, covering:

• Dropwizard role in Taboola metric architecture  
• Motivation for OpenTelemetry shift  
• Technical challenges while maintaining backward compatibility  
• Strategy for smooth transition

Although the focus is on Java instrumentation libraries, the experience is generic; no Java expertise is required.
